Cacao: The Good Stuff

CACAO: The Benefits

If you know us well enough, you will know we are fans of the good stuff AKA natural ingredients. This is going to be one of many blogs that talks about the goodness of some of the ingredients we use in our cooking whether it be for our stall, our events or for our own eating.

We use this in our energy balls, and I tend to throw a little into our breakfast pancakes too. A great addition to raw desserts, it has great properties too!

Raw organic cacao is the best one to go for as any processing will destroy many of the properties I talk about here.

Cacao acts as an anti-depressant, it elevates your mood because it contains serotonin, tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylethylamine.

It also contains 40 times the antioxidants that blueberries do… yep, this is why it goes into our breakfasts.

Cacao is also the highest plant-based source of iron, which I have to say is music to my ears and of course, to my sweet tooth.

It has a high content of Magnesium which keeps your heart and brain healthy.

…this is a great promotion for animal friendly plant based choices; it contains more calcium than cow’s milk, so if you have been wondering where you would get your calcium fix without cow’s milk and cow’s milk based cheeses… ta dah! You have your replacement which is even better.

I hope that has got your cogs turning, your mouth watering and your legs running out the door to get some of this amazing stuff.

Our energy balls recipe is already here so why not give them a try with your new-found super-duper raw cacao powder. Do let me know how it goes.

Where to get it.

You should be able to find it online or in any good health food shop. We buy Naturya Raw Organic Cacao from a small local health food retailer. However you can get it from Holland and Barrett for £6.99.
